The Mainz International Adjudication Center (MAIAC) is dedicated to bringing together research, teaching, and practice in the field of international judicial dispute settlement. It is the first and only university-based institution in Germany devoted exclusively to this subject area. MAIAC distinguishes itself both through its strong research profile and its close cooperation with practitioners. It provides a physical and intellectual space for the study of international dispute settlement, built on three core pillars<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its research<\/strong> activities, MAIAC contributes to a deeper understanding of the institutions and procedures of international dispute settlement, as well as their impact on substantive international law. It examines both inter-State disputes and disputes between States and non-State actors involving questions of international law. A particular focus lies on exploring how international courts and tribunals, and the system of international dispute settlement as a whole, respond to current and future challenges in international law and international politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the fields of teaching<\/strong> and early career development, MAIAC organises events that engage with cutting-edge research questions and address contemporary and emerging challenges in international law. Particular attention is given to formats that foster stimulating exchanges between students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers and the wider academic research community. A further emphasis lies on bridging theory and practice through activities that connect students and early career scholars with practitioners and provide insights into practical methods and issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, MAIAC seeks to foster knowledge exchange and impact through close cooperation with the international legal practice<\/strong>. The Centre aims to strengthen dialogue between international legal scholarship and practice in Germany as well as in Europe and beyond through a range of initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
